Position: Graduate Assistantships in Mussel Ecology

Location: Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Dallas, Texas
Salary: PhD assistantship: ~$35,000/year (tuition + salary), MS assistantship: ~$32,000/year (tuition + salary)
Deadline: May 31, 2025
Start Date: Fall 2025 (research can begin Spring/Summer 2025)

Description:

“Texas A&M University is offering two graduate assistantships under the supervision of Dr. Charles Randklev and Dr. Roel Lopez. The focus is on freshwater ecosystem conservation, specifically mussel ecology. PhD Assistantship: Evaluating how water quality impacts mussel growth and survival. MS Assistantship: Conducting field surveys in east and central Texas. Funding:
The projects are supported by state and federal natural resource agencies.

Qualifications:

PhD Assistantship:
– MS in Biology or related field.
– Research experience in environmental modeling and statistics.
– GPA >3.5, GRE >70th percentile (156 verbal, 159 quantitative).
– PADI or equivalent SCUBA certification.

MS Assistantship:
– BS in Biology or related field.
– Research experience in aquatic ecology, community ecology, or ecotoxicology.
– GPA >3.0, GRE >60th percentile (153 verbal, 156 quantitative).

General Requirements for All Applicants:
– Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
– Ability to work independently and detail-oriented.
– Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.
– Valid driver’s license and insurance required.
