Position: Internship in Fisheries Ecology Lab
Entity: Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) and University of South Alabama School of Marine and Environmental Sciences (USA-SOMES) Fisheries Ecology Lab
Location: Dauphin Island, AL, US
Salary: $600 per week

Description:
“The internship program offers paid opportunities throughout the 2024 field season in the Fisheries Ecology Lab under the direction of Dr. Sean Powers. Interns will participate in experiments and field surveys to detect and quantify the effects of local fisheries on species composition, abundance, and life history characteristics. The ultimate goal is to provide scientifically sound information for marine fisheries conservation and restoration efforts.
Requirements:
– B.S. or B.A. in biological or life sciences (Note: must be graduated by the start of the internship)
– Minimum of a 6-month commitment
– Willingness to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays
– Willingness and capacity to spend long days on a boat, potentially in extreme weather conditions, including rough seas
– Ability to handle heavy physical work: lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds
-Must be a U.S. citizen or hold a current U.S. work visa
