Position: Oyster Hatchery Graduate Assistantship

Salary: $30,000/year + tuition + 75% of health insurance (student fees not covered)

Description:
“The M.S. student will conduct research on oyster production at the Michael C. Voisin Oyster Hatchery over two production seasons. Potential research areas include improvements in oyster conditioning, egg quality, oyster larval settlement, off-bottom oyster culture, and multi-species aquaculture. The student will also assist with oyster production and present research at conferences and workshops. The student has the option to pursue an M.S. in Environmental Science or Renewable Natural Resources at LSU.
Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, aquaculture, or related field
– Strong interest or experience in aquaculture and aquatic animal husbandry
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills
– Ability to work in harsh field conditions (hot, humid, rain, bugs)
– Willingness to learn and self-teach new skills
– Valid driver’s license and ability to swim
– Strong candidates will have a GPA > 3.0 and completed coursework in statistics
