“As part of the Human Dimensions of Natural Resources (HDNR) department, the research social scientist will engage in a social science research study on the federal Animal Care (AC) program, focusing on the implementation of the Animal Welfare Act and the Horse Protection Act. Responsibilities include leading data collection and analysis, conducting interviews and focus groups, and qualitative analysis, particularly inductive thematic coding. The position involves collaboration with a research team and attendance at in-person workshops.

– Ph.D. in Social Science, Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, Social Work, or a related discipline before the start date.
– Background and interest in research on stakeholder perspectives on animal protection/welfare.
– Demonstrated capability in social science research using interviews/focus groups and leading qualitative analyses.
– Publication record in qualitative social science research.
– Experience using NVivo for qualitative analysis and knowledge of diverse approaches for analyzing qualitative data.
– Availability to start by August 1, 2024.”
