“For the 2024-2026 research cycle all proposed work must be in alignment with at least one of the four focus areas identified on the current 2024-2027 Strategic Plan: Healthy Ecosystems & Habitats, Resilient Communities & Economies, Education & Workforce Development, & Sustainable Fisheries & Aquaculture.”
General Proposal Information:
-Must have a duration of 2 years & focus on applied coastal marine research.
-Open competition for any principal investigator at any of the universities, agencies, non-profits or private corporations in Puerto Rico & the US Virgin Islands or from the US mainland & who have confirmed regional partners.
-Proposals must be strong in scientific or professional merit & rationale.
-Maximum Puerto Rico Sea Grant award is $140,000 for 2 years, with no more than $70,000 in each individual budget year.
-We intend to fund approximately 5 research projects.
-Any principal investigator who submitted a research letter of intent & meets the previously described essential criteria is eligible to apply.
-Principal investigators may be employees of universities, agencies, non-profits or private corporations.
-Principal investigators not affiliated with any campus of the University of Puerto Rico must
include an additional form to enable Puerto Rico Sea Grant & the University of Puerto Rico at
Mayagüez to determine whether the institution is considered high risk & whether it can be
accepted as a recipient of Puerto Rico Sea Grant funds.
