Position: USDA Forest Service Regional Synthesis of Old Growth Forest Threats and Management Techniques Fellowship

Location: Columbia, MO; Rhinelander, WI; or remote eligible
Salary: $6,500 per month, with an additional health insurance stipend and funds for travel and supplies

Description:

“The USDA Forest Service (FS) is offering a fellowship within the Northern Research Station (NRS) to assist in compiling a synthesis of current social and ecological threats and risks to old growth forest systems, and managing mature forests as they transition to old growth. The fellowship involves: Identifying threats and risks to old growth forests and the transition of mature forests to old growth, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of research scientists, land managers, and natural resource specialists, strengthening skills in spatial analysis, science synthesis, and forest asset assessments, & developing presentations and reports on research findings.

Requirements:
– Must have earned or be pursuing a Doctoral degree in forestry, ecology, biology, geography, or a related field by the start of the appointment.
– Preferred skills include experience with Tribes and/or indigenous communities, Traditional Ecological Knowledge/Indigenous knowledge, Native American ethnobotany, qualitative data analysis, and database management.
– Experience in grassland ecology, natural resource management, and/or plant-pollinator ecology is desirable.
– Strong research, communication, and teamwork skills.
