“The Veterinary Research Scientist at the Animal Human Policy Center (AHPC) will play a crucial role in a social science research study on the federal Animal Care (AC) program, focusing on the Animal Welfare Act and the Horse Protection Act. Responsibilities include designing survey, interview, and focus group questions, conducting surveys/interviews/focus groups, analyzing results, and conducting literature reviews on animal welfare related to the AC program. The position requires collaboration with a research team and attendance at in-person workshops.

– Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) before the start date.
– Experience with key animal welfare issues related to the Animal Care Program/Animal Welfare Act.
– Knowledge of and interest in research on veterinary/stakeholder/public perspectives on animal protection/welfare.
– Availability to start no later than August 1, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience with USDA Animal Care Program-regulated facilities.
– Experience conducting or assisting with surveys, interviews, or focus groups.
– Understanding of the federal Animal Welfare Act, the Horse Protection Act, and the USDA Animal Care Program.
– Experience with diverse stakeholders on animal-human relations issues.”
