Program: Crocodile Research Coalition Intern Mentorship Program
Entity: Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC)
Location: Dominican Republic & Belize
“The Crocodile Research Coalition is a nonprofit that seeks to preserve crocodiles & their environments throughout Central America & the Caribbean to ensure the long-term sustainability of biodiversity in the region. Although crocodiles are our flagship species in pursuing regional conservation efforts, the CRC recognizes that the conservation success of crocodiles is not only dependent on direct conservation efforts of the focal species but also on understanding how crocodiles interact with their environment & other wildlife as thriving & long-lasting conservation management is dependent on preserving the integrity of ecological interactions.”
CRC Dominican Republic:
This internship is a 3-week program that takes place within 3 months from May 13-July 19 annually. Interns will have the unique opportunity to assist in a head-start program of the American crocodile in Lago Enriquillo. This will provide valuable experience working on real-time wildlife management of a critically endangered population. Interns should expect to participate in community outreach & work with one of our several partners in the Dominican Republic.
We accept interns on a continual rolling basis. Long-term interns (staying with us for more than 1 month) with specific research interests are encouraged to develop small attainable projects to complete during their internship. We will work with interns to gather & analyze data for potential publication following their internship. We also have various projects that are non-crocodile related & welcome interns whose research interests may include ecosystems or species that are not our primary focus.
